Hiya

No haiga from me this week as this picture by my good friend Phill Deason paints far more than a thousand words.

A big HIYA from this little bird, Phill and me to the people at One Deep Breath who are celebrating the first birthday of their site.

Popped in from Granny J's. That is a super picture. Phill did good.

Bright eyed and all puffed up, I like him.

OK I don't know much about haiku so I read some from your blogs and looked online to see the rules.. now I have to try it.. :)

Puffed up and bright eyed
An early bird but no worm
Another day perhaps

Am I close?

Hi Faye -- closeish

better might be something like

puffed up
early bright-eyed bird
no worm today

here allowing "puffed up" to be the dominant image
there is now a slight break [called a ceasura] at the end of the second line and then the thought of "another day" is implied rather than stated -- haiku are generally "of the moment" so show rather than tell.

Mandy,
I've accomadated a few of this lady's cousins in my yard this season. One of their children approached me with curiosity but no fear yesterday. I've noticed the same behavior from my resident Jays. Odd...I've no explanation, only the joy of those moments.

Beautiful bird. I enjoyed reading the haiku in your blog and photos as well. But after reading the comment of you explaining what haiku actually is, I still can't really know how exactly should we write a haiku, though. :p

But I always love poetry.

He does feel as if he's a wild bird, but he's choosing to sit on the man's fence post than in the tree. Great photo. And I love your poem in the comments.
